Cost
how much should a 3 ton ac unit cost installed
Orlando-metro cost guides put a 3-ton 14.3 SEER2 split system at roughly $6,000 to $9,500 installed, inside a wider 2–3 ton band of $6,500 to $10,000. In Winter Springs add the City mechanical permit — $180 on an $8,000 contract. First check that three tons is the right size for the house, not a rule of thumb.
Read this before you use any number on this page
These are researched market ranges, not our prices and not a quote. The dollar figures come from published third-party cost guides — named and linked at the foot of the page — plus one figure that is not a range at all: the City of Winter Springs’ own published mechanical permit fee. They are here so you can tell whether a quote you have been handed is in the ordinary range for this work. No two houses in Winter Springs cost the same to do, and we do not quote a job before we have seen it.

What is in a 3-ton number
| Job | Researched range | What drives it |
|---|---|---|
| 3-ton 14.3 SEER2 system, installed | $6,000–$9,500 | Orlando-metro guides. |
| 2–3 ton band, all efficiencies | $6,500–$10,000 | Higher SEER2 tiers sit at the top. |
| City of Winter Springs mechanical permit | $150–$210 | $60 + $15 per $1,000 across that band. Published. |
| Duke rebate, strip heat to heat pump | up to $1,000 | Only with the Home Energy Check first, and only at 16 SEER2 / 7.5 HSPF2 or better. |
| Duct repairs, if the test says so | $500–$2,500 | Sealing; more if runs are replaced. |
Is three tons right
The median house, and the ones that are not
Three tons is the right answer for a lot of Winter Springs, and the wrong answer for a lot of it too. The citywide median living area is 1,827 sq ft, which usually lands on 3 or 3.5 tons after a Manual J calculation. But Wildwood’s 291 parcels have a median of 1,248 sq ft and the Casa Park Villas townhomes 1,088 to 1,156, where three tons is oversized and will leave the humidity in the room; Tuscawilla Unit 14B’s median of 2,686 sq ft is a four-ton-plus house, often as two systems. Why the load calculation decides the price.
The one fixed number is the permit. The rest moves with SEER2 tier, whether the quote is for a pre-2025 R-410A unit or an A2L one, and whether the ductwork can pass three tons of air. Ask for all three in writing.
