AC replacement cost in Winter Springs, Florida
Third-party cost guides put a full central system replacement in the Orlando metro anywhere from $3,874 to $6,798 (Angi, average near $5,323) up to $7,500 to $10,500 for a 1,500 to 2,500 square foot home, and $10,500 to $15,000 or more for 4 to 5 tons. In Winter Springs add the City mechanical permit: $180 on an $8,000 contract.
Read this before you use any number on this page
These are researched market ranges, not our prices and not a quote. The dollar figures come from published third-party cost guides — named and linked at the foot of the page — plus one figure that is not a range at all: the City of Winter Springs’ own published mechanical permit fee. They are here so you can tell whether a quote you have been handed is in the ordinary range for this work. No two houses in Winter Springs cost the same to do, and we do not quote a job before we have seen it.
By size
What a replacement costs by system size
| Size | Where in Winter Springs | Researched range |
|---|---|---|
| 2–3 ton | Wildwood, Casa Park Villas, The Seasons: 1,088–1,248 sq ft medians | $6,500–$10,000 |
| 3 ton at 14.3 SEER2 | The citywide median of 1,827 sq ft usually lands here after a load calculation | $6,000–$9,500 |
| 1,500–2,500 sq ft home | Most of the twenty largest subdivisions | $7,500–$10,500 |
| 4–5 ton | Tuscawilla Unit 14A/14B, Tuskawilla Crossings: 2,494–2,686 sq ft medians | $10,500–$15,000+ |
The middle of that table is where most of Winter Springs sits. The median improved residential parcel in the city has 1,827 sq ft of living area, which after a proper Manual J load calculation usually lands on 3 or 3.5 tons — not the nearly 4 tons the old “one ton per 500 square feet” arithmetic gives you. In a climate whose real problem is latent load rather than sensible load, the oversized system is the expensive mistake: it satisfies the thermostat before it has pulled the water out of the air. Why sizing decides the price.
The two ends of the table are real streets. Casa Park Villas Ph 2 has a median of 1,088 sq ft; Tuscawilla Unit 14B has a median of 2,686 sq ft with 141 of its 153 parcels carrying a pool. Same city, same permit desk, different tonnage, different ticket.

What moves the number
Refrigerant, the expired credit and the permit line
Two things pushed installed prices up in 2026 and should be stated plainly. First, the R-410A to A2L transition: new equipment uses R-454B or similar, and the EPA’s May 2026 reconsideration lets pre-2025 R-410A inventory be installed until supply runs out, so both are on the market at once. What that means for a quote. Second, the federal 25C credit applied only to improvements placed in service on or before 31 December 2025, so Duke’s rebate is now the only meaningful incentive for a Winter Springs homeowner.
The permit is the one line you can check. $150 on $6,000, $180 on $8,000, $210 on $10,000, $285 on $15,000 — the City’s schedule, not a guess. The full fee table.
Before you compare any number on this page, read the rebate order of operations. Duke Energy requires a free Home Energy Check within the previous 24 months before the equipment is installed. Replace first and apply afterwards and the claim is denied — on a strip-heat house, which is most of the 51.2% of Winter Springs built 1970–89, that is up to $1,000 thrown away.
The order matters
Duke Energy requires a free Home Energy Check completed within the previous 24 months, before the equipment is installed. Replace first and apply afterwards and the claim is denied. For an emergency replacement Duke allows the Check within 12 months after installation instead — the only route back once a compressor has already failed.
- Home Energy Check first. Free, from Duke.
- Then the recommendation it produces.
- Then the permitted install by a licensed contractor of your choosing.
- Then the application, through Duke’s Florida portal.
