AC repair cost in Winter Springs, Florida

Common AC repairs in Central Florida run $80 to $450 — a capacitor, contactor or drain line — with a diagnostic visit at $70 to $200. Sealed-system work is the expensive tier: $700 to $2,500 or more for a coil, $1,000 to $3,000 or more for a compressor. Researched third-party ranges, not our prices.

Read this before you use any number on this page

These are researched market ranges, not our prices and not a quote. The dollar figures come from published third-party cost guides — named and linked at the foot of the page — plus one figure that is not a range at all: the City of Winter Springs’ own published mechanical permit fee. They are here so you can tell whether a quote you have been handed is in the ordinary range for this work. No two houses in Winter Springs cost the same to do, and we do not quote a job before we have seen it.

What each repair typically costs

Researched AC repair ranges, national and Orlando-metro guides
JobResearched rangeWhat drives it
Diagnostic / service call$70–$200Roughly $95–$150 is typical; nights, weekends and long travel cost more. Often credited toward the repair.
Capacitor replacement$150–$400Two guides, two floors: $150 (This Old House) and $250 (HomeGuide). The part itself is $15–$80.
Contactor or relay$100–$450Pitted contacts are a wear item on a condenser cycling nine months a year.
Drain line clearing$80–$250The routine Central Florida humidity-season call. A blocked line trips the float switch and the system stops.
Thermostat repair or replacement$100–$500Spans a $20 mechanical stat and a communicating control matched to the equipment.
Blower or condenser fan motor$300–$800ECM motors sit at the top; a PSC motor in a 1980s air handler at the bottom.
Refrigerant leak repair$200–$1,500+Finding the leak is most of the cost. On R-410A, weigh it against the phase-down.
Evaporator coil$700–$2,500+On a system past twelve years, usually where replacement gets costed properly.
Compressor replacement$1,000–$3,000+HomeGuide narrows it to $1,800–$2,800. The decision point either way.
General HVAC repairs, overall band$150–$2,500Minor repairs sit at the bottom; sealed-system work at the top.

Locally

Which repair, by which part of the city

Which repair you are facing is not random in this city. 51.2% of Winter Springs’ 13,297 improved residential parcels were built between 1970 and 1989. That stock was built with straight-cool condensers, electric strip heat and R-4.2 attic flex duct, and it has been through several rounds of equipment since. What typically fails there are wear items — capacitor, contactor, drain line, float switch — on equipment that is on its third or fourth generation, with a duct trunk that is often still the original.

The 22.6% built in 2000 or later is a different repair market. Parkstone (median 2000), Heritage Park Townhomes (2005) and Jesups Reserve (2007) went in with first-generation R-410A equipment that is now around twenty years old — which is exactly the age at which a coil or compressor repair has to be weighed against the refrigerant phase-down. The compressor arithmetic.

Winter Springs is fourth of seven Seminole County cities for its 1970s–80s share — Altamonte Springs, Longwood and Casselberry are all higher — so this is not a claim about having the oldest stock. It is a claim about knowing which street you are on. The twenty largest subdivisions with their build years.

Where the licensed line is

A run capacitor holds a lethal charge after the disconnect is pulled, and refrigerant handling needs EPA Section 608 certification. In Florida an air-conditioning contractor licensed under Chapter 489 may replace, disconnect and reconnect the power wiring at the dedicated disconnect and repair or replace breakers and fuses on dedicated HVAC circuits — s. 489.105(3). Verify any Florida contractor's licence at the DBPR licensee search before work begins.
